This is certified medical technology work performing complex diagnostic laboratory tests in the analysis of human tissue and body fluids in a clinical laboratory. An employee in this class performs a variety of laboratory tests using complex methods in a variety of fields, which include clinical chemistry, microbiology, advanced molecular microbiology, immunology, urinalysis and hematology. Work includes providing technical guidance and training to lower level technicians, troubleshooting instrumentation and testing problems, compiling information, reporting results from analysis/research findings and recommending process improvements. Work is performed under the general direction of a technical supervisor.
Minimum Training, Education & Experience
The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Candidates must meet requirements within 30 days after the last date for filing applications.
1. CERTIFICATION:Certification as one of the following:Medical Technologist by American Medical Technologists (AMT), or
by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as:- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or
- Medical Technologist (MT), or- Chemistry , or- Hematology (H), or- Microbiology (M) or- Certification by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or- Certification in a related area by Health Education and Welfare (HEW) or equivalent national certifying agency.
AND
2. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) months of experience performing diagnostic laboratory tests in the analysis of human tissue and body fluids in a public health clinical laboratory or other clinical laboratory setting.
Physical & Medical Requirements
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Certification in one of the areas listed in the minimum education and training section above at the time of appointment and during tenure of employment as a Medical Technologist 2.
