Overview:
Hayden Industrial, a leading manufacturer of industrial cooling systems, is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our team. This position is responsible for the design, analysis, and verification requirements, and internal manufacturing standards while balancing safety, cost, manufacturability, and schedule. The position works closely with mechanical, thermal, drafting, manufacturing, and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Structural Design & Analysis

Design and analyze structural steel frames, skids, platforms, pipe racks, and support structures for heat exchangers and packaged systems.
Evaluate loads including dead, live, wind, seismic, thermal expansion, transportation, lifting, and installation loads.
Design base frames, saddles, columns, beams, bracing systems, lifting lugs, and tie-down features.
Perform hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to validate global and local structural behavior.
Optimize frame designs for weight, cost, and manufacturability while meeting deflection and stress criteria.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as ASME, AISC, API, AWS, and customer specifications.
Prepare and review calculation packages for internal review, customer approval, and third-party inspection.

Manufacturing & Fabrication Support

Collaborate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to ensure structural designs are practical and cost-effective.
Review shop drawings and resolve fabrication-related structural issues.
Support lifting, rigging, and transportation planning for large heat exchanger assemblies.
Work with thermal, mechanical, and process engineers to integrate structural requirements into overall equipment design.
Coordinate with drafting/design teams to ensure accurate models and drawings.
Provide technical input during design reviews, project kickoffs, and customer meetings.

Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement

Participate in internal design reviews and lessons-learned activities.
Identify opportunities to standardize structural details and improve design efficiency.
Support root cause analysis for structural nonconformances or field issues.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (with strong structural emphasis).
3–8+ years of experience designing structural steel frames and skids for industrial or heavy manufacturing equipment.
Strong understanding of steel design, welded connections, bolted joints, and load path development.
Proficiency with AISC-based design methods and structural analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, STAAD, SAP2000, or similar).
Ability to produce clear, well-documented structural calculation packages suitable for customer and third-party review.

Supervisor Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment. When in the manufacturing facility, all employees are required to wear personal protective equipment to include/hearing protection, and safety glasses with side shields, and OSHA compliant safety boots/shoes.

While performing duties of this job, the person in this position might remain stationary for long periods of time, while operating a computer and other office machinery. This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets and operate office machinery.

The employee might occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.

On occasion, the employee may be required to visit the shop that is a non-temperature-controlled environment with loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles that are usually associated with metal fabrication shops.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Travel:
Occasional travel to customer sites, fabricators, or project locations as needed.
