Electronics Engineer – PCB Design & Embedded Firmware

Location: Avon, CT (on-site) Department: Engineering Reports to: Head of Engineering and Design

About K-Tech

K-Tech International, Inc. is an American manufacturer of elevator safety and emergency communication products, based in Connecticut and moving our headquarters from Torrington to Avon. Our product line includes ADA-compliant emergency phones, area-of-rescue systems, video and texting solutions (including the K-Tech Connect platform), cellular gateways, line loss monitoring, load weighing systems, and barricade products. These products keep passengers safe in elevators, high-rises, and commercial buildings across North America.

We're a family-oriented, growing company, and our products meet demanding standards including ASME A17.1, ADA, NFPA, and UL. We're expanding our in-house work in embedded systems, cloud platforms, and full-stack development to build smarter, more connected safety products. In our small, collaborative team, your work will directly shape our products and their reliability.

The Role

We're looking for a mid-career Electronics Engineer to join our small team of electrical, embedded, and software engineers. This is a hands-on role: you'll design PCBs, write embedded firmware, and support products from concept through manufacturing. Your work will power our elevator phones, video and texting systems, and related hardware, both as stand-alone products and in Industrial IoT (IIoT) connected deployments.

This role suits an engineer who enjoys working across hardware, firmware, and manufacturing, and who likes solving practical problems in a safety-critical industry.

What You'll Do

Design and change PCBs for new and existing products, from schematic capture and layout through simulation and validation
Develop embedded firmware in C and C++ (and Assembly where needed) for microcontrollers and microprocessors, for both stand-alone and IIoT/cloud-connected products
Make sure new designs integrate cleanly with our elevator phones, video, texting, load sensing, and other safety products
Build prototypes and production runs using pick-and-place, laser cutting, CNC, and other in-house equipment
Design hardware and firmware that meets ASME A17.1, UL, ADA, FCC, and cybersecurity requirements
Apply secure design practices to build reliable products for demanding elevator environments
Work closely with electrical, software, and materials engineers on integrated solutions
Troubleshoot customer technical issues and support products in the field
Use generative AI tools to speed up schematic design, firmware development, simulation, and testing

What You Bring

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, or Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related field
At least three years designing and releasing commercial electronics, ideally sensors, telecommunications, audio, or industrial controls
Experience with PCB design tools
Experience programming in C/C++
Experience on microcontroller platforms such as STM32, PIC, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi, etc.
Knowledge of analog and digital electronics, power management, signal integrity, and communication interfaces (UART, I2C, Ethernet, cellular)
Clear writing and comfort explaining a circuit to people who are not engineers

Helpful to bring

Experience or training in mechanical engineering and metallurgy
Assembly language programming
Elevator, life-safety, or ADA communication products.
Telephone-line interfaces, speakerphones, or two-way audio.
Load cells, strain gauges, or rope-tension measurement.
Experience in a small manufacturing company rather than a large aerospace staff.
Customer support or field applications engineering experience
Experience with sensors, video integration, or voice systems
