About the Job
Senior Data Engineer

PetSmart LLC seeks a full-time Senior Data Engineer based in Phoenix, AZ . This position encompasses a broad range of Data Engineering activities, including the design, creation, and support of data products using Big Data tools to provide innovative business insights. Responsibilities include building data pipelines for data ingestion and refinement from various sources into our Data Lake environment, collaborating with stakeholders to understand business requirements and value, aligning with peers across data engineering, and partnering with the Data Science team to enable large-scale and real-time consumption of model outputs. Specific duties include: 1) Develop, optimize, and maintain Spark applications and jobs for data processing, transformation, storage, and resource management using Scala, Python, SQL, Shell or Java. 2) Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using Spark for ETL/ELT processes and manage data lake using Databricks and cloud technologies. 3) Develop and maintain streaming data pipelines with Apache Kafka and Spark Streaming, implementing robust monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure data integrity and performance. 4) Integrate and manage data flows using SOAP and REST APIs for ingestion, transformation, and database interactions, ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient data transfer. 5) Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver data solutions, maintain comprehensive documentation, and continuously improve data engineering processes with the latest big data technologies and best practices. This position utilizes Spark, Python, Scala, Shell and SQL, and involves designing, building, and operating enterprise-grade data streaming use cases with GCP PubSub/Spark Streaming/Kafka, as well as analyzing large data sets ranging from 10 to 1000 TB.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of related experience working as a big data engineer. Experience must include 2 years of experience, which may be concurrent, with all the following: 1) Developing Big Data pipelines leveraging Spark, Python, Scala, Shell and SQL. 2) Designing and operating enterprise-grade data streaming use cases with GCP PubSub/Spark Streaming/Kafka. 3) Design and deliver large-scale, flexible, fault tolerance applications using Spark, and cloud services providers to ensure data integrity. 4) Ensuring data accuracy using data quality frameworks, monitoring mechanisms, and validation rules using Databricks Delta Lake and Apache Spark. 5) Implementing robust security measures including secret managers encryption for protecting PII information, and ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and regulations including GDPR, SOX, and HIPAA.
