St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an Engineer for our well- established Growth Management Department Transportation Division whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. The Engineer for St. Johns County Growth Management Department will be responsible for the review of development projects in the County, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes. The incumbent will be expected to assist the public on matters relating to drainage, access, and general development and engineer inquiries. Customer service is a valued skill in the Department, as the public engages with staff regularly. The team includes both engineering staff and inspection staff, as well as supervision of the County’s floodplain management program.Employees work in a team-oriented environment and coordinate with other Departments and Divisions to provide the best services to our citizens and to maintain the quality of life that brought so many to St. Johns County.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Reviews development projects for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.Coordinates with Public Works and County engineering staff on matters related to construction and infrastructure.Responds to elected officials on matters pertaining to engineering standards and practices.Attends meetings to discuss project coordination, procedures, and acceptance.Coordinates with inspection staff on field specific issues.Reviews project applications for compliance with technical standards, the St. Johns County Land Development Code, the Development Review Manual, the Comprehensive Plan, and the Standards and Details Manual. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.Resolves problems that arise during the construction phase of projects.Interprets and implements Federal Emergency Management Agency and National Flood Insurance Program policies for floodplain management; assists residents with acquiring related information and answers questions; corresponds with federal agencies as needed.Reviews clearance sheet submittals for compliance with standards and requirements.Coordinates the county’s community rating system.Assists Development Review Inspectors with construction plan interpretations.Provides information and assistance to the general public.Assists in the investigation and resolution of drainage complaints.Periodically represents Division at public meetings.Maintains a full-time presence on the job.Performs other duties as assigned.
