PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Campus Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring a comprehensive
safety and security program across all Trinity Basin Preparatory campuses. This role ensures compliance with all
Texas Education Agency (TEA) school safety mandates, supports emergency preparedness, and promotes a safe
learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications
(a) Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, emergency management, education, public
administration, or related field required. Master's degree preferred
(b) Valid Texas driver's license.
(c) Texas School Safety and Security Certification (or ability to obtain within first year).
Knowledge & Skills
(a) Thorough understanding of Texas Education Code Chapter 37 and TEA safety requirements.
(b) Knowledge of emergency operations planning, threat assessment processes, and crisis
response.
(c) Ability to collaborate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and school personnel.
(d) Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
(e) Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and integrity.
Preferred Experience
(a) Minimum 5 years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management,
or a related field.
(b) Experience working in an educational setting and familiarity with TEA school safety
requirements preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Safety & Security Oversight
(a) Develop, implement, and maintain the district's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) in compliance with
Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) guidelines and TEA requirements.
(b) Coordinate regular safety drills (e.g., fire, lockdown, evacuation) and ensure documentation aligns with
state-mandated frequency and standards.
(c) Conduct annual intruder detection audits and oversee corrective actions as required by TEA.
(d) Manage security operations, including surveillance systems, access control, visitor management, and
radio communications.
(e) Collaborate with campus administration to address specific safety concerns and ensure consistent
application of safety procedures.
Compliance & Reporting
(f) Serve as the district's School Safety and Security Coordinator (as defined in TEC §37.108).
(g) Submit all required safety documentation, audits, and compliance reports to the Texas School Safety
Center and TEA.
(h) Monitor legislative and policy changes related to school safety and update district protocols accordingly.
(i) Ensure compliance with TEA safety mandates, including behavioral threat assessment team
implementation, Safe and Supportive Schools Program (SSSP), and TEA audit processes.
Training & Emergency Preparedness
(j) Coordinate staff training on crisis response, threat assessment, and emergency management in
accordance with district policy and TEA standards.
(k) Lead and facilitate the district's Threat Assessment Team for coordination and training.
(l) Serve as liaison to local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency responders to ensure timely
response and collaboration.
Risk Assessment & Incident Response
(m) Lead and conduct site-based risk assessments and security evaluations across all district facilities.
(n) Investigate incidents involving threats, violence, or safety concerns, and recommend appropriate
interventions.
(o) Develop and maintain protocols for crisis intervention and emergency communication systems.
Leadership & Collaboration
(p) Provide safety updates and recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees as needed.
(q) Promote a culture of safety and awareness through regular communication and visibility across
campuses.
(r) Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPOSIBILITIES
(s) Supervise and train security personnel and provide guidance to campus administrators on maintaining
safe environments.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
(a) Travel between district campuses and administrative offices is required.
(b) Occasional evening and weekend hours for emergency response, training, or events.
(c) May be exposed to emergency situations and unpredictable conditions.
