Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor is the University's chief academic officer. The Provost provides academic and administrative leadership in all matters of curriculum and program development, the advancement of teaching, and the support of research and other scholarly and creative work in the academic community. Additionally, the Provost is responsible for the formulation of the annual and biennial budget requests and the allocation of resources for academic programs and services, as well as planning among the academic units of the university. The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor is responsible for the review and approval of all academic programs and policies and has the authority in all matters pertaining to the appointment, promotion, and compensation of all faculty. This office provides support and staffing for the campus structure of faculty governance. Personnel administration for approximately 1,200 faculty is the responsibility of this office, through Faculty Personnel Services.
Position Summary INTERNAL POSTING - PERMANENT UNCG EMPLOYEES ONLYThe Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor invites applications for the position of Director of Faculty Personnel Services. This position reports to the Associate Vice Provost and is fully responsible for the effective management of day-to-day operations of Faculty Personnel Services.
Major duties and responsibilities include:- Plan and direct unit operations, including but not limited to: determining and establishing workload priorities; implementing shifts in resources to meet constant demands; researching and recommending improved processes or procedural changes;
- Manage faculty personnel actions for policy and procedural compliance in accordance with university, state and federal regulations;
- Manage the monthly payroll processes which include the processing of all payroll instruments through contract initiation;
- Administer the Annual Promotions and Tenure Process;
- Advise the University community on faculty policies and procedures as requested;
- Communicate with relevant entities including current and former employers, financial institutions and other external constituents;
- Assemble data and special reports in response to institutional needs or mandates from UNC System Office, the Board of Trustees, Board of Governors, and requests from other constituents.
Minimum Qualifications - Requires a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree, preferably in a discipline related to the functional areas of responsibility, and five to seven years of progressively responsible related experience in a fast-paced management office, preferably in higher education, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and CertificatesPreferred Qualifications - Familiarity with State and University personnel policies, especially those that govern faculty appointments and reappointments, the promotion and tenure processes, and the Exception Pay Policy.
- Accordingly, position prefers at least three years of experience performing faculty personnel responsibilities.
