About the Role
Join our dynamic team in San Diego and play a pivotal role in advancing patient care in vascular diseases. We are seeking an innovative and meticulous Design Engineer to take ownership of critical design and development processes for our life-saving products.
This high-impact position involves managing the complete lifecycle of our product design, from initial concept to product launch and post-market maintenance. You will be instrumental in ensuring product drawings are up-to-date, developing robust verification and validation test protocols, and overseeing testing execution. Additionally, you will be able to develop your communication skills in collecting crucial design inputs from physicians working in this field.
This role offers broad exposure across the quality management system and product lifecycle, providing an exceptional opportunity to learn, grow, and make a tangible difference in patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Drawing Management: Own the creation, revision, and maintenance of all engineering drawings, CAD models, and design specifications for Vesalio’s product portfolio.
- Verification & Validation: Author and execute comprehensive test protocols and generate detailed technical reports for design verification and validation activities.
- Design Input: Organize design inputs from key opinion leaders ensuring that the project will have a robust set of specification requirements.
- Test Oversight: Oversee and perform hands-on testing of products, components, and prototypes to ensure they meet rigorous quality, performance, and safety standards.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with Quality, Manufacturing, and R&D teams to champion design for manufacturability and ensure quality standards are embedded throughout the product lifecycle.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, or related field preferred).
- 0-2 years of experience in design engineering within a regulated industry (relevant internship experience is welcome).
- Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for creating and maintaining detailed engineering drawings.
- A self-starter attitude with an inquisitive nature and strong intrinsic problem-solving ability.
- Exceptional detail-oriented and committed to accuracy and compliance.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred:
- Direct experience in the medical device industry and familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 13485 or FDA 21 CFR 820).
- Experience with Design Controls.
- Managing Design History Files.
