We are seeking experienced Data Engineers and Analysts to support the discovery phase of a legacy system modernization program. The selected candidates will play a key role in analysing existing systems, documenting technical and business logic, and building a structured metadata repository to support future migration and transformation initiatives.
Skills required:
· Basic to intermediate knowledge of SQL Server (T-SQL), schema design, and stored procedure analysis.
· Hands-on experience with SSIS package analysis and reverse engineering.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Access (queries, forms, reports, and linked tables).
· Strong understanding of ETL concepts, data lineage, and dependency analysis.
· Experience in documentation and metadata management, including data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, and metadata repositories.
· Ability to design searchable and quarriable outputs using Excel, metadata tables, or lightweight dashboards.
· Proven ability to analyze complex, undocumented legacy systems and uncover hidden interdependencies.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional stakeholders.
· Exposure to Power BI or Tableau for visualization of metadata and dependencies.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Perform detailed analysis and documentation of SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, triggers, and functions.
· Reverse-engineer Access applications, SSIS packages, and legacy ETL workflows to identify logic, dependencies, and data flows.
· Design and maintain metadata repository tables to capture discovered information, dependencies, and transformation rules.
· Document application and system interdependencies, highlighting undocumented business logic.
· Create data dictionaries, dependency mappings, lineage diagrams, and system inventories.
· Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to validate findings and capture undocumented rules.
· Deliver searchable and navigable documentation or dashboards for technical and business review.
· Participate in interviews, workshops, and technical discovery sessions to gather requirements and insights.
· Ensure all deliverables are version-controlled, indexed, and reusable for future modernization teams.
Exp: 8-12 years ( Sr Data Engineer- 3 positions)
Location: Boston Metropolitan area.
Initial contract is for 6 months on 1099 basis. There is a probability of extension of contract or absorbed by the DEFTeam based on the performance of the candidates.
Working Model-Initial onsite for 3 months later on hybrid depending upon the performance and client approvals
