Job Duties
Under broad direction, the Discipline Lead provides technical leadership and oversight for engineering teams focused on new product technologies. This role ensures design integrity, compliance with standards, and timely delivery of development projects while driving innovation and reliability in product design.
Essential Functions:
- Provides technical guidance to assigned engineering group.
- Supervises engineers and technical staff, including goal setting and performance appraisals.
- Leads cross-functional, cross-department, or cross-center teams on corporate initiatives (e.g., standards, best practices, lessons learned) and design projects.
- Incorporates reliability analysis and promotes optimum use of development tools and standards during the design process.
- Interacts with internal teams and external organizations (suppliers, customers) on day-to-day technical activities.
- Executes tactical and strategic action plans aligned with department goals and objectives.
- Leads intellectual property coverage and patent disclosures for new technologies.
- Coordinates design reviews, milestone reviews, and manages external consultants when required.
- Ensures compliance with HES quality directives and corporate standards.
- Maintains technical expertise by performing development tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage development activities to meet project timelines, quality standards, and budgetary requirements.
- Identify and address technological and functional requirements for a specific group of products.
- Support IP reviews, risk assessments, and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Promote collaboration across global teams and ensure alignment with product line objectives.
Requirement
Skills are typically acquired through a undergraduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Material Science, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent degree, and minimum of 8 years related experience or through 12 years of related experience. Incumbents at this level will usually hold a certification as a Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer.
