Job Overview
Responsible for creation of HVAC and Data Center product designs as it pertains to electrical & controls. This includes specifying the details of the physical design and parts specifications, providing pricing related to electrical & controls, creation/editing/verifying of sequences of operation, creation of the electrical design package, as well as the creation of the controller software code and any other programming required to control the systems. Provide electrical and controls related technical support to internal and external customers.
Major Responsibilities:
- Creation of electrical designs and calculation of electrical ratings for custom or unitary HVAC & Data Center units when provided with required job specifications. Ensure designs are compliant with all NEC, UL, safety, and manufacturing standards as required.
- Development, creation, and interpretation of controls sequences of operation, creation of associated controller software programming, device programming and all other controls related instructions and references required for HVAC & Data Centers division products.
- Assist and provide design guidance to Electrical Designers to develop electrical design packages for custom or unitary products.
- Provide product specific electrical and controls related technical support to all organizational interfaces, as well as all internal and external customers. May include travel to job sites and manufacturing plants.
- Coordinate with manufacturing scheduling to ensure electrical & controls design due dates are met to support production flow requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, sales, and Technical Sales Support to ensure all required electrical & controls design information is provided in a timely manner to support the submittal & sales process.
- Provide special pricing, product performance, and application assistance to Sales as requested for electrical and controls related items.
- Participate in electrical & controls design process improvement.
- Participate in product improvement and redesign (as related to electrical & controls design).
- Participate in product cost reduction (as related to electrical & controls design).
- Assist with claim resolution (as related to electrical & controls design).
Major Tasks:
- Work with controls engineers, electrical designers, product engineering, and sales to review all specification, scope, sequence, pricing and design info for given job and ensure information is accurate, consistent and congruent.
- Work with controls engineers and electrical designers to develop / create electrical design packages for jobs, including electrical schematics, electrical ratings, panel layouts, equipment layouts, bills of material, electrical labels, and special instructions as required. Ensure designs are compliant with all NEC, UL, safety, and manufacturing standards as required. Provide overview of entire electrical and controls design package to ensure proper functionality and that all specifications and requirements of the job are met.
- Work with controls engineers to create / interpret / revise HVAC & Data Center product control strategies, designs, specifications, special pricing (SPLs), and sequences of operation.
- Work with controls engineers to develop / create all controller and device programming and special instructions or directions required for controls system on a given job.
- Coordinate with production & manufacturing scheduling, engineering, sales, electrical designers, and Technical Sales Support to ensure all required electrical and controls design information is provided on time to support sales submittal and production flow requirements. Attend submittal meetings, production meetings, etc. as required.
- Provide technical service, direction, and support on electrical & controls related issues for manufacturing, purchasing, sales, and service as required.
- Participate in electrical & controls design process improvement (including but not limited to Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen events, Lean manufacturing methods, etc.).
- Participate in product improvement, redesign, and testing as related to electrical & controls (including but not limited to R&D projects, RTC projects, DTC projects, etc.). Assist in selection and qualification of parts and vendors. Assist in testing of new parts, hardware, and software.
- Participate in product cost reduction as related to electrical & controls (including but not limited to TCP, RTC, MCAP, etc.).
- Assist with claim resolution process, review product deficiencies from field reports, and support warranty reduction (SWAT) with regards to electrical and controls issues.
- Travel as required (manufacturing plants, job sites, vendor sites, etc.).
Description of Authority:
1. Interpret specifications, NEC & UL codes, and system requirements to ensure compliance and safety when designing electrical systems.
2. Work with electrical design to determine purchase requisitions for control items.
3. Provide instructions, information, directions, and technical support directly to manufacturing.
4. Generate special pricing for sales as requested.
5. Generate Engineering Change Requests on current products regarding electrical or controls improvements or enhancements.
6. Arrange for travel as required.

Position Qualifications:
1. Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
2. 3 years' experience in related field (controls contracting, consulting engineering, HVAC construction, etc.).
3. Programming experience preferred (especially with PLCs, DDC controllers, etc.).
4. Prior experience with controls and/or BAS protocols preferred. Experience with Automated Logic definitely a plus.
5. Strong computer skills/aptitude required. Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and programming software preferred.
6. Knowledge and familiarity with HVAC wiring, electrical design & troubleshooting, and National Electrical Code preferred.
