Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Physical Security Design Engineer to design, document, and support integrated physical security systems for commercial, industrial, and/or critical infrastructure environments. This role is responsible for translating security requirements into compliant, cost-effective, and scalable system designs, working closely with project managers, sales, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electronic security systems including Access Control, Video Surveillance (CCTV), Intrusion Detection, Intercom, and related low-voltage systems
- Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, IT departments, and contractors to ensure proper system integration.
- Evaluate and select appropriate technologies from leading manufacturers (LenelS2, Genetec, Axis, Bosch, etc.).
- Develop detailed system drawings, specifications, and design packages (single-line diagrams, floor plans, risers, device schedules)
- Review architectural, electrical, and IT drawings to coordinate system layouts
- Select appropriate hardware, software, and infrastructure based on client requirements and standards
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (NEC, NFPA, UL, local AHJ requirements)
- Provide technical support during bidding, installation, commissioning, and closeout phases
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and value engineering discussions
- Support estimating and proposal efforts with accurate bill of materials and scope definitions
- Stay current with emerging security technologies and industry trends
Required Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience designing electronic/physical security and other low voltage systems “as applicable”
- Strong knowledge of access control, video management systems, and IP-based security architectures
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT/ Revit (as applicable)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, bandwidth considerations)
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Manufacturer certifications (e.g., LenelS2, Genetec, Avigilon, Milestone, Axis, Honeywell, Bosch, etc..)
- Experience with large-scale or enterprise security systems
- Familiarity with large commercial, government, healthcare, data center, or critical infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of cybersecurity considerations for physical security systems
Pay: $75,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
