General Job Description:
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for leading engineering projects and efforts associated with infrastructure improvements, equipment upgrades, capacity enhancement, efficiency enhancement and support for production issue resolution. The Facilities Engineer must be able to solve technical problems associated with Hanwha Azdel’s manufacturing processes. The Facilities Engineer must exhibit high energy, act as a goal-focused individual who is proactive in problem solving and demonstrate the leadership and communication skills needed to help a diversified global business achieve its goals. The Facilities Engineer will work with HANWHA AZDEL’s customers, manufacturing, quality and commercial teams as well as development and laboratory teams.
Core Duties/Responsibilities (I, II, Sr. and Lead):
The key deliverables related to the position include but are not limited to the following:
1) Support world-class safety and housekeeping policies and practices
- Operate in a safe, clean, and productive manner.
- Support projects to enhance the safety of Lynchburg operations.
- Promote all aspects of the Hanwha Azdel Environmental, Health, and Safety guidelines.
2) Drive and support projects to enhance Hanwha Azdel’s production capability/capacity and infrastructure
· Drive and support projects to establish new capability/capacity for finished goods or intermediate process production.
· Drive and support projects to enhance the capability/capacity of utilities
· Initiate and execute projects to maintain and improve facilities infrastructure
3) Support / drive key efforts in area of efficiency, quality, and production support.
· Drive Product Management of Change projects to support operational excellence of Hanwha Azdel.
· Work with manufacturing, quality, and technology team to ensure success of projects.
· Optimize existing process and product technologies for improved operations performance.
4) Drive projects to deliver growth to the Hanwha Azdel business
· Identify & implement innovative new production capabilities for break-through product performance, quality improvement, or cost reduction to sustain future growth.
· Lead projects using statistical design of experiments to deliver Six Sigma performance.
· Lead projects for enhanced production capability to achieve launch of new products developed.
5) Document and communicate key learnings, identify and pursue patent opportunities, contribute new ideas for consideration.
· Document and communicate most important project learnings in technical reports.
· Identify & pursue patentable ideas via patent disclosures
· Prepare patent applications.
· Submit new ideas for consideration.
Additional Core Duties/Responsibilities (Facilities Engineer II):
- Completes assigned projects and initiates projects observation or research to improve key metrics.
- Develops project scope and implements medium level projects (< $1M) with minimal Sr. and/or Lead Facilities Engineer oversight.
- Writes specs, evaluates bids, recommends a vendor, initiates PO and tracks delivery. Works with Finance to refine documents and assists with answering questions for speedy project approval.
- Prepares required documents and submits request for capital approval.
- Builds project summary as projects are completed and files.
- Ensures smooth transition to production and helps train operators.
Additional Core Duties/Responsibilities (Sr. Facilities Engineer):
- Initiates assign projects and projects self-initiated through observation or research to improve key metrics.
- Develops project scope and implements high level projects (> $1M - $5M) with minimal Lead Facilities Engineer oversight.
- Prepares required documents and submits request for capital approval.
- Builds project summary as projects are completed and files.
- Works with outside consulting and engineering companies
- Involved in all plant expansion activities
- Ensures smooth transition to production and helps train operators.
Additional Core Duties/Responsibilities (Lead Facilities Engineer):
- Leads day to day activities in the Facilities Engineering Department
- Leads projects >$5M and all plant expansion projects and acts as Project Manager
- Prepares Management reports, tracks all open projects and stewards project timelines
- Manages outside consulting and engineering companies
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Paper Technology with at least 2 years of industrial experience-Facilities Engineer I, 5-10 years Facilities Engineer II, 10-15 years Sr. Facilities Engineer and 15+ years Lead Facilities Engineer.
Other Qualifications:
PLC logistics design experience preferred.
Advanced degree a plus
Wet-lay experience preferred a plus
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
