Position Description
HOH is seeking a Mechanical Engineer experienced in delivering HVAC design for vertical structures such as municipal, transportation, commercial, healthcare, industrial, and energy sectors, utilizing both traditional and alternative delivery methods. This role plays a key part in delivering innovative and technically sound solutions through close collaboration with our in-house multidisciplinary team.
Core Engineering & Design Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards:
- ASHRAE
- Chicago Electrical Code and other local codes
- International Code Council
- Energy codes
- Basis of Design (BOD) narratives
- Design building HVAC systems, including:
- Air distribution systems (VAV, CAV, DOAS)
- Hydronic systems (chilled water, hot water, condenser water)
- Heating systems (boilers, heat pumps, electric heat)
- Cooling systems (chillers, cooling towers, DX systems)
- Ventilation systems (code-required outdoor air)
- Select and size major equipment:
- AHUs, RTUs, FCUs
- Chillers, boilers, pumps
- Develop ductwork and piping layouts
- Prepare system schematics and flow diagrams
- Design high-performance systems to meet energy codes
- Prepare BAS schematics and sequence of operations
- Prepare Specifications
- Load Calculations & Engineering Analysis:
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations
- Ventilation and exhaust airflow calculations
- Static pressure and pump head calculations
- Energy modeling and lifecycle cost analysis
- Perform system optimization for efficiency and performance
- Perform engineering studies:
- Existing conditions assessment
- Evaluate energy usage and efficiency
- Support sustainability goals (LEED, electrification)
- Field Surveying existing conditions
- Construction Administration
Project Management & Leadership Responsibilities
- Able to effectively handle multiple projects.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget
- Mentor junior engineers and designers
- Interface with clients and stakeholders
- Quality control
Qualifications
- PE in Mechanical Engineering in the State of Illinois is preferred.
- Stamp/seal drawings as a licensed PE.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design.
- Previous commissioning experience a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in Revit and AUTOCAD

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
