Job Description
Americas Gold & Silver is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at the Galena Complex in Wallace, Idaho. This role is critical to ensuring the stability and integrity of underground workings through the design, monitoring, and optimization of ground support systems. The Geotechnical Engineer will work closely with operations, geology, and engineering teams to manage geotechnical risks and support safe, efficient mining activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess ground conditions in underground workings to ensure safety and stability.
- Design, recommend, and optimize ground support systems, including rock bolts, mesh, and shotcrete.
- Conduct geotechnical mapping, data collection, and analysis.
- Develop and maintain geotechnical models and hazard assessments.
- Provide recommendations for mine design, sequencing, and excavation methods based on geotechnical conditions.
- Investigate ground control incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the development of short-, mid-, and long-term mine plans with geotechnical input.
- Collaborate with geology, engineering, and operations teams to ensure designs are practical and compliant.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations.
Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- Required: 3–7 years of experience in underground mining or geotechnical engineering.
- Preferred: Experience with underground ground support design and monitoring.
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics and ground control principles is highly desirable.
Technological Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience with geotechnical and mine planning software such as Rocscience, Deswik, Vulcan, or similar applications.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and monitoring systems is an asset.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
