Innovative Scientific Solutions, Inc. is an advanced technology company specializing in leading-edge research for the US Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson AFB. ISSI is currently seeking candidates for Research Engineer positions covering a wide breadth of focus areas and levels of expertise within the Small Engine Research Lab and elsewhere within AFRL. The Small Engine Research Lab focuses on fast-paced projects that have an immediate impact to the warfighter, as well as fundamental research pertaining to gas turbine, piston, detonation, and hybrid engine technologies. Much of the group’s research can be applied to propulsion and power for unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Qualified candidates will have interest and relevant experience in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, propulsion, energy conversion, combustion, and heat and mass transfer.
Primary Responsibilities Include
· Design, set up, and conduct engine and combustion-related research experiments
· Operate first-class engine test facilities to produce high-quality engine performance data
· Select, install, and utilize state-of-the art instrumentation to make precise measurements
· Program computer software to reduce and analyze experimental data and present conclusions
· Author technical papers and attend technical conferences to brief current research
Skills & Experience Desired
· Hands-on experience in the application of engineering theory and practice through technical projects
· Demonstrated ability to work strongly with a team as well as individually as a self-starter
· Experience with data acquisition equipment, software (LabVIEW), and instrumentation
· Hands-on experience with turbine, piston, or detonation engines
· Strength in computer programming as well as Matlab, Python, and 3D CAD – FEA and CFD also desired
· Familiarity with hand tools, machine tools, metal fabrication, and advanced manufacturing techniques
· Ability to troubleshoot basic digital and analog electronic circuits
· Familiarity with PLC hardware/software and facility control and automation
· Proficiency in communicating technical content in writing as well as oral briefings
Education
BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

Additional Information
· Full-time, Monday-Friday, 40 hr./wk.
· May require 4-5 days of second shift engine testing per month

Pay: $70,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
