Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Company: Storagenergy Technologies, Inc.
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
Storagenergy Technologies is seeking a Multiphysics Modeling Engineer to develop computational models for an advanced electrochemical reactor. The position will couple electrochemistry, oxide-ion transport, reactive gas flow, heat transfer, species conversion, and pressure drop.
The engineer will work with experimental and university teams to optimize reactor design, define operating windows, predict module performance, and support scale-up.
Responsibilities
- Develop cell-, reactor-, and module-level multiphysics models.
- Couple electrochemical reactions, oxide-ion transport, gas flow, heat transfer, and pressure drop.
- Model nitrogen utilization, gas residence time, and NOx removal.
- Compare co-flow, counter-flow, staged-flow, and recycle configurations.
- Predict temperature, concentration, current-density, and pressure distributions.
- Define reactor operating windows.
- Develop scaling rules for active area, flow channels, gas flow, and module size.
- Validate models using experimental data.
- Prepare technical reports and design recommendations.
Qualifications
- PhD or master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience with CFD, transport phenomena, and multiphysics modeling.
- Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS Fluent, or similar software.
- Knowledge of electrochemistry, heat and mass transfer, and reactive gas flow.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or a similar scientific computing tool.
- Strong analytical, communication, and technical-writing skills.
Preferred Experience
- SOFC, SOEC, ceramic membranes, fuel cells, or electrochemical reactors.
- Porous-media and multicomponent gas-transport modeling.
- NOx chemistry or nitrogen-reaction systems.
- Reactor or module scale-up.
- Government-funded research programs.
