PPI Quality & Engineering, a Kiwa company, is seeking an experienced Resident Mechanical / Ex-Certified Inspector to support a major energy project at a supplier facility in Houston, Texas.
This is a resident assignment providing daily onsite surveillance of manufacturing, assembly, testing, and quality activities associated with gas turbine packages and related mechanical equipment.
The successful candidate will have strong mechanical inspection and vendor surveillance experience, along with current Ex / hazardous-area inspection qualifications. The inspector will work closely with supplier personnel and project quality representatives to verify compliance with project requirements and provide timely, detailed inspection reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily onsite inspection and surveillance at the supplier facility.
- Monitor manufacturing, assembly, inspection, testing, and quality activities associated with gas turbine packages and related equipment.
- Perform mechanical inspections in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Notices of Inspection (NOIs), engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
- Witness and verify required inspection, hold, witness, and review points.
- Inspect mechanical equipment, components, materials, assemblies, and associated documentation.
- Verify compliance with applicable hazardous-area and explosion-protection requirements.
- Review material certificates, inspection records, test reports, welding documentation, calibration records, and other quality documentation.
- Verify that inspection and testing activities are performed using approved procedures and properly calibrated equipment.
- Identify and document quality concerns, deviations, nonconformances, and potential schedule risks.
- Coordinate directly with supplier personnel and project quality representatives regarding inspection findings and outstanding actions.
- Monitor supplier progress against the approved manufacturing and inspection schedule.
- Issue a Flash Report following each day of inspection activity.
- Prepare and submit a detailed weekly inspection report covering progress, completed activities, findings, concerns, nonconformances, and outstanding actions.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and traceable inspection records.
- Participate in supplier and project quality meetings as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical inspection, vendor surveillance, supplier quality, QA/QC, or related inspection experience within oil & gas, power generation, petrochemical, LNG, or other energy-related industries.
- Current applicable Ex inspection certification or demonstrated qualification in hazardous-area / explosion-protected equipment inspection.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, testing, and inspection processes.
- Experience working from ITPs, NOIs, engineering drawings, project specifications, quality plans, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to identify, document, and communicate nonconforming conditions.
- Strong technical inspection reporting and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as the onsite project inspection representative.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection/reporting systems.
- Ability to work onsite in Houston five days per week for up to 10 hours per day.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct inspection experience with gas turbine packages and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Previous inspection experience within a gas turbine, rotating equipment, or major equipment OEM/supplier facility.
- Prior resident vendor surveillance / source inspection experience.
- Experience with FATs, mechanical testing, dimensional inspection, welding inspection, material traceability, and manufacturing documentation.
- Relevant certifications such as IECEx, CompEx, hazardous-area inspection, AWS CWI, NDT, mechanical, electrical, or coating inspection certifications.
Assignment Requirements
This is a local resident assignment in Houston, Texas. Candidates must be able to provide consistent onsite coverage for the duration of the project.
Mileage and travel time are not reimbursable or billable for this assignment.
