Position: R&D Chemist V
Location: Headquarters - Moon Township, PA

Hours of work: Mondays - Fridays, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 40 Hours/Week
The R&D Chemist V will serve as a principal investigator to both a) generate new product and process concepts in one or more emerging markets and b) support non-routine manufacturing issues in specialty products. The R&D Chemist V must be able to rapidly gain an understanding of technology through both interactions with internal experts by conducting literature/patent searches. The R&D Chemist V will apply new concepts/knowledge toward advanced products, processes, or applications. The R&D Chemist V independently conceives, plans, and conducts research, which could have considerable impact on company goals and performance. The R&D Chemist V will work directly with internal commercial colleagues and with customers. They should possess the flexibility to work individually and in teams. The R&D Engineer V is expected to execute several projects at various stages of completion simultaneously, while responding to frequent changes in priorities in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)
- Serve as an expert in select domains of activated carbon technology
- Interact directly with customers in support of existing products and to incorporate their feedback into new products
- Interact with and incorporate feedback from internal sales, marketing, and manufacturing personnel. Stay current in field of work with conferences and literature review
- Manage projects devoted to new product development and product technical/manufacturing support
- Direct the work of others as required, exercise solid leadership skills, and engage in team building where appropriate
- At lab scale level, modify or create activated carbon products or processes to meet new market needs
- Estimate the business potential of the new products or processes
- Conduct or support plant-scale trials to drive new products to market quickly
Qualifications
- An advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field is required
- Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent is required
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent is preferred
- 3-5 years Activated carbon, chemistry, or engineering fundamentals, techniques, and test methods is required
- 7-10 years R&D experience and demonstrated creative skills is required
- Experience with activated carbon research and development is preferred
- Supervisory experience is preferred
