We are a consulting firm, and have been retained by a private equity-owned landscaping company to find a President who will increase its local footprint as well as expanding it to other locations by opening branch offices and adding acquisitions.

The company, founded over 20 years ago and located in a city in the Minneapolis area, employs 140 people at peak and 50 year-round. Service offerings are complete, and include lawn maintenance, sprinkling systems/building irrigation systems, hardscapes and softscapes and snow removal, allowing customers to use uses only one supplier year-round.

Growth has been sound, as the company’s sales have doubled in the past 4 years. They are in the process of establishing their first branch office, an area that they have been servicing from their headquarters, that now has contracts of over $3-million per year for an extended period.

The new President will report to the private equity ownership and should have held a significant leadership experience with a company that provides services to properties, especially commercial properties, multi-unit or multi-home property managers/HOA’s, and to builders. An understanding of all facets of a service business, including managing remote managers and teams, business development, and finance is required. They should also have experienced significant growth and preferably have experience establishing branch or remote offices. P&L experience is a major plus.

The company is owned by a two-partner private equity firm that has six portfolio firms, ranging in size from $8- to $25-million in sales. They like to implement gainsharing programs that benefit all employees as the company’s profits grow. Their companies have maintained a remarkably personal feeling, unlike the corporate behemoths. Not only does this match the partners’ mindsets, but at the same time, they have found that maintaining an upbeat mindset, coupled with the gainsharing, has improved productivity, profit and all other measurable metrics.
