Position: Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer
We are looking for a few exceptional candidates who have graduated from a competitive program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related disciplines to consider joining the elite team at Temple Allen Industries in Rockville, MD. We want someone who is eager to bring their own skillsets and personal experiences in generating mechanical designs that expand available features and deployments, emphasize ease of assembly, simplicity, and robustness, and improves the overall experience of operating an EMMA system.
You should be excited to spec out the requirements for a design and design to achieve or exceed those specs. You should be interested in learning about the full design process from designing new parts and making their drawings and inspection documents, to creating the assembly steps and procedures, and testing and validating your design delivered on its requirements. Your passion for mechanical design will help to fuel your work in improving our EMMA robotic solution. You should be excited to show off your work and well-organized so you can delegate it to the people you work with. You should want to be a part of the design process and be excited to participate in discussions with other designers and engineers to help understand the system holistically and better implement elements that bring real value to the artisan and the enterprise.

Requirements:
The following items are required for an individual accepting the responsibilities of this position:
- Experience & proficiency with CAD modeling, preferably SolidWorks
- Experience generating drawings for custom parts
- Experience & proficiency working with Excel
- Knowledge of what a Bill of Material is
- Experience with assembly work
- Experience working with or generating assembly instructions
- Experience with technical writing
- Exposure to or experience with pneumatics is a benefit, but not a requirement
- Experience using a Bill of Material (BoM) is a benefit, but not a requirement for an entry level position

The following items are expected tasks an individual accepting this position will be undertaking and completing:
Tier 1 Responsibilities Include:
- Populate BoM vendor tabs with all items sourced for a given project or program.
- Update BoM tabs for modules or modifications to correctly show subassemblies, labor times, method of assembly, and all associated component parts.
- Generate SolidWorks drawings for designed parts.
- Generate SolidWorks models for custom parts, assemblies, modules, and full systems.
- Generate and track new part numbers for custom parts.
- Fulfill assembly and fabrication work orders.
- Oversee and delegate small scopes of work for assembly, testing, design, drawing, and analysis.
- Conduct analyses for comparing costs, labor times, and other key specifications to help with making design decisions
- Gain an understanding of how to read and use a pneumatic schematic.
- Submit purchase order requests to procurement to get parts purchased.
- Draft the technical sections of system manual(s).
- Use knowledge gained on production floor to update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other documentation.
- Fulfill testing work orders and evaluate performance of mechanical and pneumatic prototypes.
