Duties and Responsibilities: The Director ofEnterprise Systems provides strategic leadership and oversight for theplanning, development, and delivery of enterprise applications that support theacademic, administrative, and operational functions of Durham College. Thisincludes full lifecycle management of the institution's core systems such asthe Ellucian Banner ERP, Learning Management Systems (LMS), identity and accessmanagement solutions, reporting and analytics platforms, and other integratedenterprise applications.
The Directorensures systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with the college's strategicpriorities while enabling efficient and effective service delivery. This rolealso provides shared support services to Ontario Tech University, ensuringjointly used systems and integrations are maintained and meet the evolvingneeds of both institutions.
The Director isaccountable for developing and managing a multi-year operating and capitalbudget for enterprise systems, balancing current needs with long-terminvestments in modernization and service improvement. Working in closecollaboration with internal departments, senior leadership, and externalvendors, the Director supports digital transformation initiatives, includingcloud readiness, data-driven decision-making, and student success technologies.The Director leads a team of managers and technical professionals and isresponsible for operational excellence, continuous improvement, and long-termtechnology planning.
StrategicLeadership and Digital AlignmentProvidevisionary leadership for the strategic planning, evolution, and governance ofenterprise systems, including ERP (Ellucian Banner), Learning ManagementSystems, identity and access management, and enterprise reporting platforms.Align technology direction with institutional priorities and digitaltransformation strategies across Durham College and Ontario Tech University.
Enterprise Systems StewardshipLeadthe full lifecycle management of enterprise systems, ensuring highavailability, security, scalability, and optimal integration within the broaderCampus Technology ecosystem. Establish and enforce governance frameworks, riskmitigation strategies, and comprehensive documentation standards for all systemenhancements and changes.
Shared Services Management with Ontario TechUniversityServe as a key strategic partner in delivering sharedenterprise services to Ontario Tech University, ensuring systems andintegrations meet the evolving operational and academic needs of bothinstitutions. Foster transparency, trust, and alignment through regularcollaboration and service-level accountability.
Learning Management System LeadershipOversee the strategic development and support of the Learning ManagementSystem environment. Collaborate with academic leaders and Teaching and LearningCentres to enhance learning capabilities, supporting pedagogical innovation andexcellence in digital education delivery.
FinancialOversight and Resource PlanningDevelop and managecomprehensive multi-year operating and capital budgets for enterprise systems.Ensure financial stewardship through cost-effective technology planning,lifecycle forecasting, and strategic investment in modernization, licensing,staffing, and shared infrastructure.
Team Leadershipand Staff DevelopmentLead, coach, andinspire a cross-functional team of managers, business analysts, and technicalspecialists. Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuouslearning, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver high-impact services in arapidly evolving environment.
Enterprise Projectand Change ManagementDirect a portfolioof major enterprise system initiatives, including ERP upgrades, cloud migrations,and platform integrations. Champion structured project and change managementmethodologies to ensure timely execution, stakeholder engagement, andsuccessful adoption of new capabilities.
Vendor Strategyand Contract GovernanceEstablish andmaintain strategic partnerships with enterprise technology vendors and serviceproviders. Lead contract negotiations, performance monitoring, and complianceenforcement to maximize value, manage risk, and uphold service-levelcommitments.
Data Governanceand Institutional Reporting Strategy Advance datagovernance practices and institutional reporting strategies in collaborationwith college and university stakeholders. Promote data-driven decision-makingby enhancing access to reliable, timely, and actionable analytics across allareas of the institutions.
Qualifications:- A minimum of a 4-year degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering.
- A master's degree in a relevant field such as Information Technology Management, Business Administration (MBA), or Public Sector Leadership is an asset.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience
- A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role with responsibility for managing teams, strategic planning, and ERP service delivery
- Experience in postsecondary, public sector, or similarly complex, multi-stakeholder environments is preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or an equivalent recognized credential (e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner) is an asset.
- Formal training or certification in Agile or hybrid project management methodologies (e.g., Scrum Master, SAFe, AgilePM) is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
- Advanced knowledge of ERP systems (preferably Ellucian Banner), Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace), identity and access management platforms, and enterprise reporting tools (e.g., Cognos, ODS, Insights). Understanding of system architecture, integrations, and lifecycle management is critical.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale IT projects, including cloud migrations, using structured methodologies such as PMP. Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, risk management, and change adoption strategies.
- Proven ability to develop, manage, and monitor multi-year capital and operating budgets, including forecasting, vendor cost analysis, and return on investment assessments.
- Experience managing complex vendor relationships and negotiating service agreements, licensing contracts, and performance metrics.
- Ability to align technology decisions with institutional strategy, analyze system performance and user needs, and recommend long-term solutions based on data and trends.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor staff, build effective teams, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with diverse stakeholders including executive leadership, academic departments, staff, and vendors. Ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear, business-oriented terms.
- Familiarity with IT governance frameworks, privacy legislation (e.g., FIPPA), cybersecurity standards, and institutional compliance requirements.
