Job Description:
This Opportunity is within our Lexington-based high-throughput cell sorting development team. The Systems Engineer will be directly involved in the design, assembly, testing, and optimization of our innovative high-throughput, microfluidic-based cell sorting platforms. The position will collaborate with a diverse technical team on product development both for R&D and cGMP operations. This role will have a direct impact on several globally important applications of our current and future cell isolation technologies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with a cross-functional team of engineers and biologists to design, assemble and test complex electrical, mechanical, microfluidic, and optical systems
- Own the system design and drive automation algorithm development
- Conceptualize, design, procure, prototype, and build components and assemblies for products and testing/manufacturing fixtures
- Conduct root cause analysis on application-specific issues reported by the client
- Troubleshoot and document problem resolution during system level testing
- Develop, execute, and document test protocols
- Communicate tradeoffs, program risks, and technical progress to the team and management
- Provide feedback and help generate test and assembly documentation for transfer to manufacturing
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related engineering fields
- 3+ years in engineering environment
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) for designing complex assemblies with tight tolerances.
- Strong understanding of DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturability/Assembly) principles.
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, GD&T/tolerance stack-up analysis, and iterative design validation
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset for identifying and resolving design-to-manufacturing challenges
- Strong communication skills and ability to document engineering processes clearly for tech transfer and scaling
- Ability to self-organize and work effectively with limited supervision
Preferred Skillsets/Experience:
- Experience transitioning products from R&D/prototype stage to pilot and scaled manufacturing.
- Experience with research instrumentation and/or flow cytometry
- Familiarity with microfluidic systems, optics, or electromechanical components is a plus.
- Experience in class II/III medical device product development
- Experience with Python, LabVIEW, and Matlab is preferred
