OVERVIEW
The Jr. Hardware Engineer is responsible for digital circuit design and analysis using engineering design tools, PCB layout direction, prototype verification using lab instrumentation and PC-based development tools, and supporting manufacturing introduction and sustaining activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop hardware and PCB computer design solutions, including digital circuit designs, firmware applications, microprocessor-based board-level design, PCB layout, motherboard design, digital signal processing, or real-time embedded multiprocessor design.
- Work cooperatively with the engineering team to determine the full engineering life cycle of hardware products, including architecture, design, and implementation.
- Confer with the Vice President of Engineering on writing functional specifications.
- Design product features using hardware description languages, CAD tools, and other engineering tools as required.
- Perform schematic entry and support PCB designs on a project-by-project basis.
- Maintain vendor relationships and source engineering components as needed.
- Modify product lines as assigned by Engineering Management.
- Work with Engineering Managers to identify bugs and provide fixes.
- Measure project progress at critical stages and implement corrective actions as directed.
- As a junior engineer, responsibilities may be limited, with increasing complexity and autonomy as experience is gained.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
BSEE, BSET, BSCS, or 4 years minimum experience in design/layout/oversight/bring-up/test of digital circuit designs.
EXPERIENCE
- 0–2 years of experience in hardware design and implementation.
- Experience with full hardware life cycle development (concept → manufacturing), including testing and documentation.
- Experience with Intel architecture processor design (Core i7, i9, XEON desired).
- Exposure to high-speed digital design, including PCI Express, USB, DDR/Thunderbolt (a plus).
- Exposure to FPGA design and associated tools, including VHDL and/or Verilog (desired).
- Experience with electronics operating at 100MHz or greater (a plus).
