Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Unmanned Systems (Team Lead)

Job Description:
Dexa is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead a small engineering team focused on the design, development, and integration of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) for commercial drone delivery operations. This role is a critical technical leadership position responsible for shaping Dexa’s next generation of airborne autonomous delivery drones.
The Mechanical Engineer Team Lead works closely with electrical engineering, flight operations, and production teams to ensure aircraft designs are reliable, manufacturable, and meet mission performance requirements.
Mechanical Engineer (Team Lead) Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of mechanical and aerospace engineers.
- Own the mechanical design of Dexa’s small unmanned drones, including airframes, structures, mechanisms, and payload systems.
- Manage the full design lifecycle: requirements definition, CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, and release to production.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers on component placement, wiring integration, power systems, and electromechanical interfaces.
- Conduct structural, thermal, and vibration analyses to validate design integrity.
- Oversee prototype builds, material selection, fabrication methods, and quality control.
- Support flight testing activities, troubleshooting issues, and implementing design improvements.
- Ensure all designs meet performance, safety, environmental, and operational requirements for commercial fleet use.
- Maintain engineering documentation, design standards, and revision control.
- Coordinate development schedules, resource allocation, and cross‑functional alignment with operations and leadership.
Mechanical Engineer (Team Lead) Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing mechanical systems for aerospace, robotics, drones, or related hardware fields.
- Demonstrated leadership experience guiding engineers or technical teams.
- Strong proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Experience with structural, thermal, or modal analysis tools and methods.
- Hands‑on prototyping experience with composites, machining, additive manufacturing, or rapid fabrication.
- Ability to manage projects from concept through flight‑ready hardware.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) or robotics hardware.
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals including PCB packaging, wiring harnesses, actuators, and power systems.
- Knowledge of aerodynamic principles or flight mechanics.
- Experience supporting or participating in flight test operations.
- Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as carbon‑fiber layups, injection molding, or precision machining.
