Sentech Architectural Systems is an Austin-based specialty structural glass design, engineering and manufacturing company that serves the needs of progressive architecture and building industry professionals on some of the most unique and challenging structural glass projects in the world.
We are currently looking to expand our BD department and are looking for an Entry-Level Engineer who will be responsible for performing initial structural analysis and design of specialty structural glass systems and performing bid activity on assigned projects through the estimation, proposal, delivery and iterative design-assist process. In this role, you will consult with engineers, architects, glazing contractors, and building professionals to provide creative solutions to façade design-assist and design-build needs.
We are seeking a confident and personable candidate who speaks the language of construction and engineering and has excellent problem-solving skills. This is a full-time, onsite position with ample room for learning, professional growth, and development for those who demonstrate the desire and ability to adapt and understand the complexities involved in the structural glass industry and custom fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Analyze civil plans, drawings and specifications of complex structural façade systems
- Work directly with the Director of Business Development to confirm technical requirements, and develop design concepts for complex projects and façade systems
- Perform calculations for façade systems in accordance with local building codes and project specifications
- Develop pricing estimates and cost submittals (basic estimating work involved) for the entire engineered solution, and deliver client proposals
- Collaborate closely with architects to develop and provide design guidance
- Perform FEA/ structural analysis (steel, glass, aluminum) and develop initial calculations utilizing Strand7, MathCAD and SAP2000
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
- Working knowledge of building codes such as ASCE7
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Office applications (particularly Excel)
- Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, drawings
- Experience analyzing project plans and specifications of complex structural systems
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and organizational skills
- Analytical mindset and exceptional attention to detail
- Collaborative, must work exceptionally well in a team environment
- Willingness to learn our products and market
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience designing facades/metal structures (steel, stainless steel, aluminum)
- Working knowledge of 3D frame FEA analysis using programs such as SAP2000, STAAD, or RISA-3D
- Engineer in Training (EIT) registration; in pursuit of PE registration
- Understanding of structural engineering concepts and working knowledge of design codes including the following: non-linear behavior of slender elements and cables, non-linear material behavior, structural dynamics, working knowledge of material design codes including AISC, ADM (aluminum design manual) and NDS
- Experience using Bluebeam software
