Overview:
Trotter Controls is seeking a Controls / Systems Engineer to join our dynamic growing company’s team. Trotter Controls is a world class provider of aerial firefighting systems, telemetry systems, turnkey control systems, and automation equipment.
We are a technology driven company with a diverse engineering and manufacturing focus including control systems design and fabrication, mechanical systems, as well as automation equipment. In house manufacturing technologies include 3D printing, laser welding, SMT & through hole electronics, as well as traditional mechanical & electrical fabrication and assembly.
We are looking for a self-motivated and talented addition to our engineering staff. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient team player who can excels in a work environment that includes a mix of new R & D products as well as continuous improvement of our existing products.
This position reports to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO).
Responsibilities:
- Help set and maintain the technical direction of internal product development efforts as well as client driven engineering projects
- Work with our team to define technical requirements and documents as required
- Lead electrical, mechanical and software engineers to achieve technical requirements
- Work with other programmers / team members to debug and / or author control system software when needed
- Create technical reports to document design analysis, test requirements, etc.
- Create operation manuals and other customer facing documents
- Create drawings, schematics, etc. to assist design engineers
- Assist with or lead test fixture and production process development and mentoring
- Assist with or lead systems level design reviews with Engineering group and clients
- Maintain design configuration control for assigned products/projects
Qualifications:
- Must possess a high level off electrical / aptitude, common sense, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to conceptualize and design analog and digital circuits in a team setting
- Ability to troubleshoot analog and digital circuits to the component level
- Ability to configure software controlled device
- Programming experience in C, C++ or other languages is a plus
- Embedded controller experience is a plus
- BS in Engineering, a MS degree in a technical field is a plus but not required
- Demonstrated technical experience is considered in lieu of education
- 5+ years of experience in a R&D/product development environment is required
- A well-rounded command of Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineering disciplines
- Self-driven with a desire to work in a team environment to achieve shared goals
- Must be organized, action/results oriented, and able to structure project related tasks as well as team responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
- Experience with circuit board layout / 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks) is a plus
- Experience with ERP / MRP systems is a plus
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
- Ability to grow into a project management role is a plus
- Aviation and/or Automation experience is a plus
- 1 ~ 3 trips per year for system debug or training may or may not be required. Our technical team shares world-wide training and support activities.
