Overview:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the review of engineering design drawings for manufacturability, development of the manufacturing process (router), and for providing engineering support to machinists, assuring efficient manufacture of quality parts. Best up-front processes and time with the manufacturing floor resulting in most efficient manufacturing is the goal. This role is the liaison between the engineering department and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering review of design for manufacturability. Review is to include tolerances for function of mating parts, fixturing, special tooling, and gages required.
- Provide programming for projects requiring advanced technical skills.
- Evaluate programming needs for current runs and work with Team Lead to distribute programming requirements to capable machinists with a goal of producing a quality part with maximizing machine efficiency. Also ensure proper program naming and revision are in place.
- Coordinate models and / or drawings required with the engineering department.
- Coordinate any process changes or special instructions needed for the router with the engineering department.
- Notify QA Manager or employee responsible for gage calibration and tracking of any need to acquire special gages by EMS or from customers.
- Develop / monitor manufacturing routing processes for most efficient outcome considering current load and current demand on equipment.
- Provide engineering support to the manufacturing floor. Presence on the manufacturing floor and communication with the machinist is essential to assure manufacturing intent and efficiency.
