About the Role
Caribbean Structural Systems and Aptec Building Systems are a South Florida-based structural engineering and supply firm specializing in pre-engineered metal buildings and structural steel. Operating as two halves of the same team — CSS handling international work and Aptec handling domestic — we design, procure, and deliver building systems to clients across Florida, The Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, the Cayman Islands, and the broader English-speaking Caribbean. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a motivated Structural Engineer to join our team and contribute across a diverse range of projects.
What You’ll Do
- Support the full project lifecycle from initial estimating through final design, including entering and fine-tuning pre-engineered metal building models in MBS
- Design structural steel, open-web steel joist, and metal deck systems across a range of project types and complexity levels
- Prepare and review drawings, calculations, and project documentation, including annotating and red-marking approval drawings for special conditions
- Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, and clients to move projects from award through procurement and delivery
- Contribute to internal process improvement, including organizing details and developing SOPs for repeatable work
- Travel domestically and internationally as project needs require
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MS a plus)
- 3–7 years of experience in structural engineering, with meaningful exposure to metal building systems or structural steel
- Familiarity with AISC, ASCE 7, and Florida Building Code requirements
- Experience with Metal Building Software (MBS) is a strong plus; ability to learn proprietary design and detailing platforms is essential
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required; Revit experience is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid passport required (or willingness to obtain one)
- Experience with Caribbean or international projects is a bonus, but not required
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience, paid biweekly
- 100% company-paid health insurance for the employee (dependent coverage available at employee’s expense; eligible after 90-day probationary period)
- SIMPLE IRA with up to 3% company match
- Sales commission program for employee-driven leads
- 15 days paid vacation (increasing to 20 days after 4 years)
- 5 days paid sick leave annually
- 10+ paid holidays, including Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and the day after Thanksgiving
- TSA Global Entry reimbursement
- All business travel expenses reimbursed
