The Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) seeks an experienced and resourceful Business Systems & Data Engineer to become the second member of our Business & Data Intelligence team, complementing the skills or our existing Business Data Analyst.
The Business Systems & Data Engineer is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining CSDSIP's data infrastructure, system integrations, automation, and technical data architecture. This position partners closely with the Business Data Analyst and departments across CSDSIP to connect systems, improve data quality and accessibility, automate business processes, and support the organization's current and future technology initiatives, including Risk Management Information System (RMIS) implementation.
Our current systems are antiquated, isolated, and lacking integration. We will implement a new RMIS in the next couple of years but don’t want to wait to see improvements until then. We want to better connect and leverage our existing data, improve our current posture, and position ourselves to get the most possible out of a new system when it arrives. We need someone who can help with band-aids today, stitches tomorrow, and surgery next year, all while laying the foundation for an entirely new and much better integrated system that supports the full spectrum of our business needs.
Role and Responsibilities:
Data Engineering & Architecture
- Design, develop, and maintain CSDSIP's centralized data environment in the form of a data warehouse or appropriate equivalent
- Develop ETL/ELT processes to collect, transform, validate, and integrate data from internal and external systems
- Document data sources, transformations, integrations, and dependencies
- Establish data models, data structures, and data governance standards
- Identify and assist with data cleanup opportunities and design sustainable/scalable processes which ensure data quality
System Integration
- Design, develop, and maintain integrations between CSDSIP's RMIS and other business systems
- Design, develop, and maintain API, database, file-based, and other system integrations
- Establish schedule and automated processes for transferring and synchronizing data across systems
- Monitor integrations and troubleshoot data-transfer and system issues
RMIS & Systems Implementation
- Serve as technical lead for data migration, integration, and technical implementation of the new RMIS and other major system projects
- Develop data mapping and transformations of historical data
- Support system testing, data validation, conversion, data reconciliation and implementation
- Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues
- Own post-go-live system integrations
Process Automations and Reporting Infrastructure

- Proactively identify opportunities to improve, enhance and strengthen reporting infrastructure for stakeholder consideration
- Assist in building and maintaining technical solutions supporting internal business processes
- Develop and maintain data models and reporting datasets
- Translate business requirements into functional programming routines and/or processes to meet project objectives
- Set up data connections and automated refresh schedules
- Provide reliable, centralized data for use in analysis
Data Governance
- Establish and maintain technical data documentation and data lineage
- Implement data validation and quality controls
- Support appropriate data security, access controls, and data management practices
- Apply data quality controls and maintain data governance practices, data dictionaries, and master data management processes
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, systems integration, business systems development, or a closely related technical field
- Experience working with relational databases, data modeling, migrations and optimizations
- Experience with financial, or other complex operational data
- Ability to work with business partners and outside departments using a customer-focused mindset.

- Experience with data extraction, transformation, loading (ETL/ELT), data mapping, and data validation across multiple systems
- Experience documenting technical processes, data structures, system integrations, and data flows
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate with staff across a wide array of different departments and external technology vendors
