Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer (EE) to join our Network Hardware Team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and resolving complex electrical and hardware failures across network switch products (spanning NPI, Mass Production, and Field Returns). You will work closely with Cross-Functional Teams (HW/SW/ME/Power/CPU/FPGA) to root-cause system- or board-level anomalies and come out corrective/preventive actions to improve product quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Debugging & Root Cause Analysis
- Perform hands-on board-level failure analysis on high-speed network switch PCBAs and system hardware.
- Trace circuits and signal paths using schematics and PCB layout files to isolate failing components, interfaces, or power sub-systems.
- Utilize thermal imaging (IR cameras) and non-destructive tools (e.g., 2D/3D X-ray inspection) for preliminary defect localization and non-invasive detection.
Lab Execution & Instrumentation
- Set up test environments to replicate failure modes under varied power, signal, and environmental conditions.
- Measure and capture high-speed signals, protocol transactions, power rails, and clocking logic to pinpoint hardware anomalies.
Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Generate structured, evidence-based Failure Analysis (FA) reports detailing problem statements, analytical steps, root-cause findings, and recommended design/manufacturing fixes.
- Collaborate with HW, SW, Power, CPU, FPGA, ME, and Quality teams to drive corrective/preventive actions to improve product quality and reliability.
Required Qualification
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on failure analysis, hardware debugging, or EE test experience in network equipment, servers, or high-speed hardware products.
- Schematic & Board File Mastery: Demonstrated ability to read, navigate, and crossprobe schematics and PCB layout files (Cadence Allegro / OrCAD preferred).
- Lab Instrumentation Expertise: Direct hands-on experience using Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Logic Analyzers, and function generators for board-level fault identification, along with basic soldering and PCBA rework capabilities.
- Circuit Fundamentals: Strong grasp of digital/analog fundamentals, Power Management ICs (PMIC), Voltage Regulator Modules (VRM), clock distribution, and power-on sequence logic.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with network switch architecture, high-speed interfaces (SFP/QSFP transceiver interfaces, PCIe, Ethernet PHY/ASIC), or signal integrity / power integrity (SI/PI) debugging.
- Familiarity with SMT manufacturing processes and common board-level defect mechanisms (e.g., BGA solder bridges, voiding, microcracks, passive component short/open).
- Hands-on experience with quality methodologies (8D, FMEA).
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin to communicate effectively with global engineering teams.
