Job Title and Reporting: Data Engineer, reporting to the BI Manager
Annual Base Salary: $85,000–$100,000/Bonus Eligible

Position Overview. As the Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building, optimizing, and maintaining ETL pipelines, validating the work of our offshore development team, and ensuring that all data, whether sourced from APIs, file systems, or internal databases, is reliable, clean, and ready for business use. Beyond supporting Power BI reporting, you will also manage and monitor the data pipelines that integrate with key operational systems (such as ADP and other third-party platforms), ensuring smooth, accurate, and reliable connections. This position is critical to maintaining the integrity of our internal reporting, external system integrations, and overall operational efficiency as the business continues to grow.
Services and Duties.As the Data Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Black Rock’s data pipeline architecture and supporting scalable, reliable reporting solutions across the organization. Your essential duties and key responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

Designs, builds, and maintains data pipelines using Azure Databricks (SQL, PySpark) and Delta Lake

Develops and manages data ingestion workflows for APIs, flat files, and cloud-based systems

Reviews, validates, and provides feedback on work completed by offshore data engineering resources

Ensures pipeline outputs are efficiently structured and optimized for seamless data modeling and reliable system integration.

Implements and maintains validation processes, data quality checks, and pipeline monitoring frameworks

Collaborates with the BI Engineer and BI Manager to ensure data alignment with reporting needs

Standardizes processes for onboarding new data sources and system integrations

Documents data pipelines, processes, and validation frameworks to support maintainability and scalability

Troubleshoots pipeline issues and proactively drive continuous improvement in data reliability and efficiency

Work cross-functionally with stakeholders from Ops, Finance, and ELT to support data-driven decision-making

Work Environment. This position operates primarily in an office environment (onsite or remote) with approximately 15% travel required to attend meetings, events, and engagements with internal and external stakeholders. Skills and Competencies. To excel in this role, you should bring a combination of technical expertise and interpersonal abilities, including the following essential skills and competencies:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

1-3 years of professional experience in data engineering or ETL development
-
Expertise in SQL and Databricks (PySpark and/or SQL workspaces)

Strong experience integrating data from REST APIs, JSON files, and structured file formats (CSV, Excel)

Experience building and managing time-series data pipelines, including timestamp-based ingestion, aggregation, and storage
-
Strong understanding of dimensional modeling principles, including star and snowflake schemas used for BI reporting

Knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, or similar)

Familiarity with building and optimizing data models for Power BI datasets

Experience in system integration, including designing, implementing, and maintaining data connections between multiple platforms and applications

Experience working with offshore teams or managing outsourced technical resources

Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills

Highly process-oriented with an eye for data integrity and operational excellence

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively communicate with cross-functional teams
