The REMM Group, one of Orange County's fastest-growing property management firms, is seeking an experienced Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate for this position has experience in third-party commercial and multifamily property management with Yardi knowledge. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller is responsible for day-to-day finance operations and supervises the accounting team, including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, credit cards, finance systems, and tax. The Controller ensures The REMM Group has the internal controls, systems, and procedures in place to safeguard assets, produce accurate and timely financial reporting, and support exceptional customer service. Be the resident GAAP expert, with deep and current experience in financial reporting and fund accounting. In addition, the Controller will partner with the CFO to mentor and promote the professional development of all members of the accounting team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Support accounting department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or company-wide improvements, through research, planning, and implementation, as needed.
- Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis.
- Prepare internal and external financial statements, reviewing financial data to ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Work closely with the executive team to ensure that company-wide operation is efficient and effective.
- Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management.
- Ensure deliverables meet client expectations.
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts, and monitor on a monthly basis.
- Review accounting entries for new properties/assets commencing operations.
- Oversee the accounting team and the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll.
- Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques.
- Assess, execute, and streamline policies, procedures, controls, and most methodologies.
Job Requirements
- BA/BS in Accounting and Finance, with strong knowledge of GAAP
- Solid understanding of real estate/property management accounting
- Third-party multifamily property management experiencerequired
- Yardi experiencerequired
- The ideal candidate will have 7–10 years of relevant experience in the field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience as a Controller
- A background as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager is required
- Possesses strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
- A deep understanding of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and control, as well as GAAP, is required
- Advanced knowledge of property accounting standards, regulations, and best practices
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify and implement process improvements
- The ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and team members, while also mentoring or leading others as needed
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
- Excellent written, verbal, and social communication skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Experience with preparing Annual Budgets
- Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
- Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
- Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
