The Data Engineer IV (DE Level 4) designs, builds, and maintains robust data pipelines and infrastructure that power our data marts and warehouses. You’ll work alongside a team of data professionals to ensure reliable, scalable, and well-governed data systems that support analytics, reporting, and decision-making across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meets with data architect and product managers to discuss and plan data projects as a subject matter expert.
- Provides estimations on proposed features and assists with roadmap planning activities.
- Prepares reports on engineering project specifications, activities, or status.
- Conducts feasibility studies for new features, data systems, and platforms to guide the direction of the technical stack used by the team and leads architectural review documents with assistance from senior engineers.
- Works as part of a development team in the design of data flows and datasets and is a subject matter expert on projects as assigned.
- Conducts stakeholder requirement gathering and presents for approval to leadership and more senior engineers.
- Learns and adheres to team processes, standards, and best practices. Participate in continuous discussions with the team to make improvements.
- Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
- May act as technical lead on projects or initiatives.
- Collaborates across multiple engineering teams in the design of new features and functionality.
- "Independently prepare data sets for usage, including building ETL pipelines, testing of pipeline performance, confirming data accuracy, and validation of data quality to ensure stakeholder requirements are met.
- Review and guides more junior engineer work."
- Develops and maintains documentation, creates architectural design diagrams and documents.
- Performs work with a high degree of latitude.
- Possesses expert knowledge of subject matter.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to fellow and more junior engineers and other team members.
- Provides input to technical strategies for the team in conjunction with business priorities and industry trends.
- Drives team development of engineering best practices and keeps up to date with latest trends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree and 4+ years of experience, or 6-8 years of experience in data engineering.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expert knowledge of SQL and one high-level programming language.
- Experience ingesting data from APIs.
- Advanced knowledge of data pipelines and established competency in at least one ETL tool/framework
- Technical expertise.
- Able to debug advanced data pipelines and datasets
- Problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel:
Will have to travel a few times a year for onsite team events and training, up to one business week per trip (less than 10%)
