As a Battery Systems Engineer at Joy Boost, you’ll play an important role in driving the design, prototyping, and development of our next-generation battery-powered products. This role sits at the intersection of battery chemistry, electronics, mechanical systems, and PCB design. You’ll collaborate closely with our CEO and leadership team to innovate from concept to manufacturing, while tailoring solutions for specialized markets including defense, emergency response, and sustainability-driven applications.

What we are looking for
- Degree or hands-on experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering, with emphasis on batteries or power systems.
- Knowledge of battery chemistries, BMS, and PCB integration.
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Strong problem-solving ability and interest in sustainable, mobile energy.
- Self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.
- Has regular access to a prototyping lab or workshop suitable for designing, assembling, and testing prototype batteries and enclosures.
Responsibilities
Electrical & PCB Engineering
- Contribute to the design of control electronics, charging circuitry, and PCB layouts capable of handling high currents, heat dissipation, and precision measurement of cell data.
- Ensure system-level integration with wireless charging standards (Qi).
Mechanical Engineering
- Design compact, thermally managed, and structurally robust battery enclosures.
- Develop solutions that withstand vibration, shock, and extreme use environments.
- Support CAD modeling and production-ready design files for manufacturing partners.
Battery Systems & Integration
- Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, and PCB design domains to integrate advanced battery chemistries into safe, reliable, and ultra-thin form factors.
- Work on battery management systems (BMS) that ensure safe charging, discharging, and long-term performance.
- Evaluate and refine battery chemistries (LiPo, LiFePO₄, zinc-sulfur, iron-air, etc.) to balance energy density, safety, and environmental impact.
Innovation & Specialized Applications
- Explore renewable charging integrations (e.g., solar).
- Customize configurations for defense and disaster recovery use cases.
- Investigate emerging form factors and IP opportunities.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with cross-functional engineers and external manufacturers.
- Translate technical specs into clear communication for investors, partners, and customers.
Commitment & Compensation:
- Time: Flexible 5–20 hrs/week, with option to expand.
- Location: Remote or hybrid.
