About Plastic Molded Concepts
Plastic Molded Concepts (PMC) is a leader in molding highly engineered thermoplastics. We help our customers take their new plastic product concepts through design and into production — ensuring each part meets the highest standards for performance and reliability.
Unlike most molding companies, PMC treats injection molding as an engineered science, not a “black art.” Our process engineers combine material science, data-driven analysis, and advanced process control to develop consistent, high-quality molding processes that protect and maximize resin performance.
Position Summary
PMC is seeking an Injection Molding Process Engineer with a deep understanding of resin chemistry, mold design, and process optimization, including using scientific, closed-loop process controls. This role focuses on developing, validating, and analyzing injection molding processes that maintain the full physical properties of advanced polymer resins.
This is not a setup or machine operation role — it’s an engineering position for individuals who understand the science behind the molding process and how it impacts material performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize injection molding processes for advanced engineering resins such as PEEK, PPS, Polycarbonate, and Nylon.
- Collaborate with customers and internal design teams to ensure part and mold designs are manufacturable.
- Translate resin supplier data sheets into scientifically validated process parameters.
- Perform mold flow analysis and develop process settings that ensure dimensional stability and material integrity.
- Use DOE (Design of Experiments) and statistical analysis to validate and document molding processes.
- Conduct forensic root-cause analysis of molding or material issues using data and analytical tools.
- Support tooling design reviews to ensure molds align with processing requirements.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for process validation and continuous improvement.
The Forensic Process Approach
This role uses a forensic, data-driven engineering approach to understand how resin chemistry, mold design, and processing parameters interact. The goal is to create optimized molding processes that preserve the resin’s full mechanical and thermal properties, ensuring the final product meets its intended performance and life expectancy.
This is ideal for engineers who enjoy problem-solving, experimentation, and process development — not just machine setup.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in injection molding process development or engineering.
- Strong understanding of polymer behavior, resin chemistry, and scientific molding principles.
- Hands-on experience in DOE (Design of Experiments), process validation, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in interpreting resin data sheets and converting material properties into process parameters.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) plan
- Paid vacation and holidays
- Opportunities for professional growth and advanced training
