About the Role
The Design Engineer is responsible for transforming architectural intent into clear, accurate, and buildable documentation for complex AVL systems. This role balances technical craft with production discipline — prioritizing precision and judgment while maintaining momentum across multiple projects.
Design Engineers play a critical role in ensuring that systems can be installed, commissioned, and supported without confusion or rework. This position is ideal for engineers who care deeply about getting it right, and who understand that great documentation is foundational to a great client experience.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Technical Documentation & Design Craft
- Produce detailed AVL system drawings using Vectorworks and ConnectCAD
- Document complex, signal-dense systems across audio, video, control, and networking
- Maintain accuracy across signal flow, rack layouts, elevations, schematics, and schedules
- Ensure drawings and documentation are internally trusted and executable
Production & Throughput
- Manage design tasks across multiple concurrent projects
- Meet project deadlines without sacrificing documentation quality
- Incorporate revisions and updates in an organized, traceable way
- Support procurement and installation teams by minimizing ambiguity
Coordination & Problem Solving
- Translate Systems Architect intent into complete construction documents
- Identify conflicts, gaps, or inconsistencies early and communicate them clearly
- Coordinate with internal teams and external partners as needed
- Support Operations and Field teams with clarifications during execution
Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Follow established documentation standards and workflows
- Contribute to improving templates, libraries, and repeatable design patterns
- Participate in peer reviews and internal QA processes
What Success Looks Like
- Drawings can be built from without interpretation or guesswork
- Procurement questions are expected and minimal
- Field teams trust the documentation and rarely need clarification
- Design work reduces stress and surprises downstream
