ExoTerra is microsatellite company specializing in solar electric propulsion systems and space exploration satellites. The company develops Hall Thrusters, propulsion modules, microsatellites and launch vehicle upper stages.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Senior Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer at ExoTerra will work with multiple disciplines to build, integrate, and test spacecraft and propulsion electrical systems at the subsystem and system levels.
This is an all-encompassing role to take designs from inception, into production, and into testing and final delivery. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience working with in a team environment, be comfortable and confident working in a fast-paced environment, understand the importance of deadlines and impact to schedules.
Assembly, Integration & Test
- Oversight of various disciplines of mechanical parts and product manufacturing for multiple programs
- Assist in the planning, development and implementation of AI&T activities for all mechanical and even module testing
- Participate in Non-conformance resolution and perform testing to find root cause
- Perform various testing to verify product is in spec and meets requirements
- Be confident being the voice of Manufacturing during design reviews
- Develop, design and implement tools for aiding in assembly and integration of parts
- Work directly with technicians and the production floor on builds
- Develop, write, review, and implement manufacturing plans, production travelers, and SOPs
- Implement facility improvements and production floor layouts to meet customer requirements for product safety and improved work flows
- Ensure product meets all customer requirements and travelers capture all required data to be delivered to the customer
- Help train technicians on processes and procedures
- Manage manufacturing orders for electronics on floor and verify product is meeting requirements in conjunction with quality personnel
Design
- Support designers and vendors with expertise in machining and build flows
- Provide Feedback for mechanical and assembly drawings with input for testing and manufacturing
- Understand industry and ExoTerra standards
- Evaluate proposed designs for DfM, DfA, and DfAM, and support the development of efficient design practices, provide feedback and guidance to design teams
- Sign off drawings for manufacturing reviews
Quality
- Provide support and production inputs to Quality for AS9100 implementation
- Drive non-conformances into actionable work and system improvements
- Assist in company-wide operational excellence projects and activities
Procurement
- Develop and maintain relationships with electronic and harness specialty manufacturers and service bureaus in our supply chain
- Work with Procurement to meet the needs of inventory ordering and delivery
- Track and manage open inventory orders to ensure production is on time
- Manage inventory inspections and verification, and ensure products meets the requirements prior to being issued to the floor.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree – Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology strongly preferred
- 4-10 years experience
- Experience with electronics manufacturing processes & test
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
