Senior Data Engineer
About the Role
The Senior Data Engineer owns the design, reliability, and evolution of iEnjoy Home's data infrastructure — the production pipelines that power our order processing, the cloud databases that hold our operational data, and the reporting layer the business depends on. This is both a hands-on engineering role and a leadership role: in addition to building and maintaining critical systems, the Senior Data Engineer leads and mentors a small team consisting of a Data Engineer and a Data Validation Analyst.
This person sets technical direction, reviews and guides the team's work, troubleshoots issues with a bias toward lasting solutions, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of the data the company runs on. They are expected to actively leverage AI tools (including Claude and Gemini) to accelerate development and to coach the team in doing the same.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of two: a Data Engineer and a Data Validation Analyst
- Set technical direction and standards for pipeline design, data modeling, and data quality
- Assign and prioritize work across the team, balancing new development against operational reliability
- Review the team's code, SQL, and validation work; provide guidance and ensure quality
- Establish data quality and validation processes, and ensure findings are tracked and resolved at the source
- Serve as the escalation point for data issues, driving root-cause analysis and durable fixes
- Coach the team on effective use of AI tooling in their daily workflows
- Communicate technical status, risks, and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Technical Responsibilities
- Own and evolve production pipelines that power e-commerce order processing across the full data lifecycle: API integration, ETL design, SQL modeling, orchestration, and operational reliability
- Design, build, and optimize database schemas and data models across CloudSQL and BigQuery
- Maintain and create ETLs that connect to external APIs and internal systems
- Develop and own API integrations that bring data from our sales channels and ERP into our internal database
- Manage GCP data infrastructure, including CloudSQL, BigQuery, and VM cron job scheduling
- Build and maintain CI/CD and automation using GitHub Actions and YAML workflows
- Manage channel and order integrations (e.g., order ingestion into Cloud SQL, pushing orders into the ERP, tracking-number automation) and improve them over time
- Maintain security best practices, including IAM authentication across databases and tooling
- Connect data pipelines to Google Sheets, Excel, and the broader Google Workspace for reporting
- Support and maintain reporting and dashboards (e.g., Looker Studio / Power BI)
- Monitor systems, troubleshoot issues immediately, and implement lasting solutions
Requirements
- 4+ years in data engineering or a closely related role, with experience owning production data pipelines
- Strong hands-on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience: CloudSQL, BigQuery, and VM cron job scheduling
- Advanced SQL — schema/data modeling, query optimization, and debugging
- Proficient in Python (including Google Colab) for ETL, automation, and data processing
- Experience building and maintaining API integrations
- Strong familiarity with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and YAML-based CI/CD workflows
- Working knowledge of Linux and shell scripting
- Experience designing and optimizing relational database schemas (PostgreSQL/MySQL)
- Comfortable using AI tools (Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, NotebookLM, etc.) as everyday work tools
- Experience integrating data with Google Sheets, Excel, Power Query, and Google Workspace
- Experience with data visualization tools (Looker Studio, Power BI)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and an eager learner
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Local to the Clearwater, FL area (in-office role)
Nice to Have
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating the work of other engineers or analysts
- Experience with order-to-fulfillment / supply-chain data flows
- Architectural mindset and strong systems thinking
- Experience with data quality and validation frameworks
- Familiarity with marketing data sources and Datastream-to-BigQuery pipelines
