With this ambition, Veolia is integrating the City of Montreal's Waste Treatment Plan by taking over the operation, maintenance, and management of the new Montreal-East Biomethanization Centre (BEST). This centre will play a crucial role in converting 60,000 tonnes of organic waste per year into biomethane, by valorizing organic matter from Montreal residents.
In this context, Veolia is seeking an Industrial Mechanic. This person will be responsible for performing various tasks related to the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, refurbishment, inspection, adjustments, and improvements of the building's (plant's) mechanical installations. They will work on production equipment, machine tools, handling equipment, and all other mechanical industrial equipment present on the site.
Job Description
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure corrective, preventive and curative maintenance of all electromechanical equipment in the plant, including industrial building systems, production machines, machine tools, handling equipment as well as any other equipment used in the biomethanization, water treatment and odor treatment process;
- Perform troubleshooting, repair, inspection and testing work on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and electronic components and systems;
- Install, configure and commission equipment such as motors, pumps, compressors, conveying systems, programmable logic controllers, etc.;
- Perform diagnostic tests and measurements using control and analysis instruments;
- Optimize and increase the reliability, performance and lifespan of industrial equipment;
- Maximize the operational availability of machines, while ensuring optimal productivity and quality levels over the long term;
- Perform routine checks and maintenance, replace parts and make necessary repairs immediately to minimize production downtime;
- Participate in and carry out corrective, preventive and curative maintenance using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) "Maximo";
- Interpreting technical diagrams and schematics, from initial installation to verification of optimal equipment operation;
- Study and assimilate technical instruction manuals in order to establish and improve rigorous procedures during the commissioning or maintenance of equipment;
- Participate in the review, improvement or writing of procedures, plans, work instructions involving their responsibilities;
- Use lifting or handling equipment to move machines and parts around the site;
- Demonstrate a high degree of versatility and a keen interest in both purely electromechanical aspects and the plant processes as a whole. Be able to combine in-depth technical skills in mechanics with a good overall understanding of biomethane production processes, water treatment and odor control;
- Prepare logbooks (daily), weekly and monthly reports, as well as incident reports as required internally;
- Provide supervision, guidance, and monitoring to subcontractors working in areas under your responsibility. You will ensure they are supported, guided, and that the quality of their work complies with applicable requirements and standards.
- Record the interventions of subcontractors and external contractors in the Maximo CMMS;
- To foster a positive and collaborative work environment;
- To actively participate in the quality, health and safety, and environmental approach, in factory audits, as well as in the promotion of related activities and controls;
- Apply site and corporate rules, instructions and procedures regarding quality, health and safety, and environment;
- Perform all other related tasks relevant to the proper functioning of mechanical equipment.
- Qualifications
and Requirements:
- Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in electromechanics of automated systems or any other vocational training in electromechanics, industrial electricity or related field;
- Hold a certificate of competence for a construction or non-construction electrician or electromechanical technician issued by Emploi-Quebec (mandatory) or the Quebec Construction Commission (CCQ);
- Minimum of three (5) years of relevant experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in biomethanization, petrochemicals or water and/or wastewater treatment (an asset);
- Adequate physical fitness for the activities and tasks to be performed;
- Functional French and English required;
- Holding the certificate (card) awarded by the Joint Association for Health and Safety at Work in the Construction Sector (ASP Construction) (an advantage);
- Possess Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority to hold a job in Quebec;
- Experience in welding, assembly and disassembly, handling of this heavy equipment;
- Interests and aptitudes for problem-solving / troubleshooting;
- Tolerance to visual elements and odors;
- Capable of reading and interpreting technical and architectural plans;
- Ability to analyze and utilize technical data;
- Demonstrates an interest in teamwork and places great importance on respecting standards;
- Demonstrate a willingness to collaborate and take responsibility;
- Demonstrate a high level of proactivity;
- Interest in working for a company committed to sustainable development in its daily operations;
- Strong aptitude for analyzing the causes of technical problems and skill in finding solutions.
Work Environment:
Permanent, full-time position with a daytime work schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Occasional evening work may be required as needed. The successful candidate must be flexible and available during periods of high production and able to work under pressure on occasion.
